My commitment
Medium XL is committed to making mediumxl.net accessible to people with disability. The site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the standard referenced by Australian governments and the Australian Human Rights Commission.
Conformance status: partially conformant. Most of the site meets level AA, but some parts don't yet fully meet it. These are listed under known limitations below.
What I've done
- Keyboard friendlyEvery link, button, menu and form field can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a clear focus outline. A "Skip to content" link jumps past the menu, and Escape closes the mobile menu.
- Screen reader supportPages use proper headings and landmarks, form fields have labels, meaningful images have text alternatives, and decorative icons and arrows are hidden so they aren't read out.
- Readable text and colourText and background colours meet the AA contrast ratio, information never relies on colour alone, and text can be enlarged to 200% without losing content.
- Calm motionAnimations stop on their own within five seconds. If your device is set to reduce motion, they don't play at all.
- Clear formsThe contact form says which fields are required. If something needs fixing, the message is read out and the field in question is highlighted.
- Works on any screenThe layout adapts to phones, tablets and desktops, zooming isn't blocked, and buttons are large enough to tap easily.
Known limitations
- Not tested with every screen readerThe site has been checked with a keyboard, browser accessibility tools and automated testing, but not yet with every screen reader and browser combination.
- Client logosClient logos are images. Each has a text alternative naming the business, but the wording inside a logo isn't described in full.
- Contact form needs JavaScriptThe form uses JavaScript to send your message, so it won't work if JavaScript is turned off in your browser.
Compatibility
The site is built with standard HTML, CSS and a small amount of JavaScript, so it should work with assistive technology such as VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS and TalkBack. It's designed for recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile.
How it was assessed
Accessibility was reviewed by Medium XL as a self-assessment, using keyboard-only testing, browser accessibility tools and automated checks against WCAG 2.2 AA. There hasn't been a formal independent audit yet.
